Wine Drinking-Mistakes To Avoid

By Holly Peters

There is an art to wine drinking. If one knows the proper way to drink wine, their wine drinking experience will improve. In this article, you will learn about a few mistakes that people commit when drinking wine. Read through this article so that you can avoid making the same mistakes.

True wine enthusiasts are aware of how important temperature is, both to wine storage and wine serving. Wine should not only be stored in the correct temperature, but be served in the right temperature as well. Generally people are aware that wine should not be served hot, but what people commonly fail to understand is that wine should be chilled to a very specific temperature. Most people commit the mistake of over chilling their wines. Over chilled wines taste and smell dull.

Wine tastes better when it is allowed to breathe before it is drunk, another thing that many people fail to do. Allowing wine to breathe means exposing the beverage to the air for a few minutes, so as to stimulate the softer tannins to develop, and thus improve the flavor of the wine.

Wine glasses are also an important factor in improving your wine drinking experience, one many people are not aware of. Most of the time a smaller glass is enough, but there are certain wines that are best served in a wine glass that has a big bowl. Some red wines are best served with the big bowl wine glass because the shape of the glass allows the wine to swirl, and thus lets the aroma accumulate.

Although there is no clear explanation, many experts say that wines that have traveled should be given adequate rest time, in order for them to reveal their full potential. Wine that is immediately opened and served after traveling usually tastes dull and boring.

The most common mistake committed regarding wine drinking is pairing wine with the wrong food. Although there is no strict rule in how wine and food should be paired, you should take time to experiment on which food pairs well with your favorite wines.
