The recent addition called the Fashion in the Vines Competition has made the festival even more exciting. This fashion contest invites contestants to enter the competition for the best dressed male and female at the festival. Contestants are judged on: style and originality of the outfit, appropriateness of attire for the Marlborough Wine Festival, appropriateness of accessories, suitability of outfit to climate, grooming and deportment.

Annually celebrated every 2nd Sunday of February, over 8000 wine and food enthusiasts from New Zealand and other parts of the world gather together to experience the most amazing food and wine festival.

Marlborough is the largest wine growing region in New Zealand with more than 9000 hectares of vineyards. The leading grape varieties grown are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer. Vineyards were originally situated at the plain's southern fringes, however, as the production grew the plantation was extended across the river flats of the Rapaura district, west to the Waihopai and lower Wairau and further south into the Awatere Valley.

From these grapevines has come a string of national and international awards, establishing the region's distinction in producing both still and sparkling wines. The most successful among the wine offerings of Marlborough is the Sauvignon Blanc wines.

Why not stay at Blenheim winery accommodation. While around the area, make sure you savor the chance of enjoying all its many attractions. The Marlborough Sounds is a peaceful playground for seafarers and kayakers. Blenheim, a well-known place for its fishing and water sports, also offers you a trip on the mail boat.

A fishing guide is available to take fishing enthusiasts to the perfect spots. The path to the coves and ridge line of the 71km Queen Charlotte Track is a paradise to freedom walkers and mountain bikers.
