How To Cook Great Tasting Food Like A Pro

Learning to master the basics of cooking can seem like a daunting task to someone who has never cooked before. If you do not know anything about cooking and are one of the people who burn water when trying to get it to boil, here are some tips to teach you the basics of cooking.

At some point during the day, try to get a small amount of caffeine into your body. Caffeine will help to relax tension and has also been known to aid asthma. Make sure that you do not consume too much caffeine though, as this can have a negative influence on your breathing.

Keep a pack of unflavored, unwaxed dental floss in your kitchen. If you need to make clean, precise cuts, dental floss is typically much more effective than using even the sharpest kitchen knife because of it's small width. Simply pass the piece of dental floss through the item you are cutting for a nice, clean slice.

When you open a can of tomato paste for just a spoonful and are wondering what to do with the rest, place dollops on a parchment-lined cookie sheet, and stick the sheet in the freezer. When the blobs of paste are frozen solid, transfer them to a freezer bag. You can then pull out just enough tomato paste for your next few recipes, without wasting partial cans.

If you love to cook but have minimal space for a library of cookbooks in your kitchen, consider purchasing a small laptop or netbook exclusively for kitchen use. You can keep your own recipes and notes on the computer, pull up thousands of recipes online, and listen to your favorite radio stations or TV shows as you cook.

When you are cooking vegetables that are green you need to make sure that you never put a lid on them. When you do that it causes your vegetables to lose all of the green color. You will end up with a pot full of vegetables that have turned brown.

Clean up made easy! Don't make washing up a chore - if you have a dishwasher you really don't need to hand wash the dishes first. Simply rinse off the large chunks of food with warm water. The hand-washing detergent used on dishes can leave a film inside your dishwasher. Load the machine according to the manufacturer's instructions, turn it on and relax!

Get a glistening double-crust pie top. For the perfect pie crust, brush the unbaked top with melted butter, margarine, mile or water. Then, sprinkle lightly with sugar. For a shiny golden-brown crust, brush the unbaked top with a light mixture of beaten egg and milk, skipping the sugar.

If you have intolerance to dairy milk, and you recipe calls for milk, a very good substitution is tofu milk. Tofu milk can come in powered form, and once mixed with water, it will have a smoother texture and better flavor than the other alternative soy milk. Use this milk when you want to replace dairy milk in recipes, over cereal or for drinking.

When cooking dried beans, do not add salt or garlic until the beans have softened. Both of these substances can prevent your beans from becoming softer as they cook, especially if the beans are old to begin with. Save the seasonings until the beans have cooked at least part of the way to get the texture that you want.

Now that you have added some useful and creative cooking tips to your arsenal, you should be able to start pursuing your dream of playing chef. Whether you want to make a living from cooking or simply want to serve delicious meals to your family, remember these tips for culinary glory.
